Teen Seriously Injured in Carman Avenue Crash

The cause of the three-car collision is unknown, East Meadow Fire officials said.

One person was seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash at around 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Carman Avenue and Salisbury Park Drive, according to Assistant Chief Walter Griffin.

Griffin said a man, described to be in his late teens, was driving northbound on Carman Avenue, when his car was struck by a construction truck while he was headed through an intersection. Although the circumstances of the crash are still unclear, Griffin said that it's possible that the teenager ran a red light.

"It's still being investigated," Griffin said.

After the truck made initial impact at the intersection, the teen's car struck another car that was waiting at the red light. The woman of that vehicle was taken to NUMC with "pain in her arm," Griffin added.

The teenager was taken to with serious injuries, although Griffin said he was conscious before the ambulance left for the hospital.

"His car was totaled," Griffin said. "He took a very big hit."

Griffin said that, while at the hospital, he went to visit the teen to see how he was doing. The teen was in the process of being medically cleared.

"It was great to see that he's going to be okay," Griffin added.

The man driving the construction truck refused medical attention at the scene.
