Salisbury Man Caught During Attempted Burglary

The incident occurred just after 4 a.m. Tuesday morning.

A Salisbury man was arrested after he was allegedly caught trying to break into of Nawtons Bar and Grill Tuesday, police said.

According to Third Precinct detectives, Gregory Neway, 32, tried breaking into the Westbury establishment around 4 a.m. While trying to get inside, police said Neway damaged a window, an air conditioner, and he also "pulled gas and electrical lines from the building which led to a hazardous condition."

Detectives said that Neway also tried to "ignite a natural gas line."

Third Precinct officers ordered Neway off the roof, and he was arrested without incident. Neway caused approximately $3,000 damage to the local eatery. No injuries were reported during the incident, police said.

Neway is charged with third degree burglary, third degree arson, second degree criminal mischief and third degree criminal mischief. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Oct. 12.
