Two Injured in Prospect Avenue Crash

Emergency units had to cut one motorist out of the vehicle, officials said.

Two motorists were injured in a crash on Prospect Avenue just after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.

The two vehicles, a Dodge Durango and a GMC Sierra, collided near the intersection of Prospect Avenue and Von Elm Avenue, officials said. The cause of the crash is unknown.

"One person was pinned, and we had to cut him out," Assistant Fire Chief Nick Corrado said. "He was then taken to for observation."

The driver of the Sierra was taken to NUMC to be checked out as well, and Corrado said that neither sustained life-threatening injuries.

A First Precinct officer guided traffic for a brief time while debris was cleared from the road and the vehicles were towed away.

According to the driver of the Durango's wife, who asked to remain anonymous, her husband was traveling westbound on Prospect Avenue and the Sierra was crossing northbound from Von Elm Avenue when the vehicles collided.

"My husband was complaining of bad shoulder pain," she said. "The accident wasn't his fault."
