Brief Power Outage in East Meadow

More than 1,200 local residents were affected.

A short power outage affected 1,269 East Meadow residents on Monday, according to Long Island Power Authority Spokesperson Vanessa Baird-Streeter.

"The outage took place at 11:30 a.m.," Baird-Streeter said. "The power was back up and running by 11:42 a.m."

The outage caused the traffic light at the intersection of Front Street and East Meadow Avenue, which is one of the areas most voluminous intersections, to be temporarily disabled. The was without service as well.

"From what I understand, there were a lot of residents affected by this," Assistant Library Director Rocco Cassano said. "But now, we are back up and running."

While power was down in the library, patrons waited outside for the electric to be restored. It's unknown what caused the downtime in service for East Meadow.

"The cause of the outage is currently under investigation," Baird-Streeter said.
