Police: Eight Maine Men Illegally Solicited Work in East Meadow

The men were released, but are required to return for Nassau County court date.

Eight men from Maine will return to Nassau County for a December court date after allegedly soliciting work without license or permit in East Meadow Wednesday afternoon.

The investigation of a potential Hurricane Sandy repair and clean up scam began around 12 p.m. Wednesday after police saw two men, who were out-of-state workers, with a confused elderly woman at a bank in the area of North Jerusalem Road.

Nassau County Police said the eight men identified soliciting work in the area were:

  • Christopher R. Lau, 31
  • Ian Michaud, 20
  • Shawn Thyng, 22
  • Thomas Thyng, 48
  • Marshal Vanderbloeman, 24
  • Nathan L. Jackson, 25
  • Sherman L. Thyng, 69
  • Mark Louis Bureau, 36

Vanderbloeman, Jackson and Bureau were issued summonses for unlicensed solicitation for paid work in the Town of Hempstead, police said.

Michaud, Shawn Thyng, Thomas Thyng and Lau were issued appearance tickets for working in Nassau County without a County Home Improvement License, police said.

All of the men were issued violation notices from the Nassau County Office of Consumer Affairs for operating a home improvement business in Nassau County without a permit, police said.

The men were released from the scene and are scheduled to appear at Second District Court in Hempstead on Dec. 27.

What a joke this will be. Come Dec. 27th, there will be eight empty seats in court and Nassau will just let this case go quietly away.

Where in my post did I mention anything about race you foul mouthed moron. Have some respect for decent people who read the Patch. You just exposed your very low I.Q. and I have no doubt you will post another low class response in which I will just ignore, and maybe you will crawl back in your rathole!

Just curious.. are these men LICENSED workers in MAINE and not in NY.. because although still ILLEGAL.. it does not hold same weight as 8 random people , with no experience/background in doing home repairs. and possibly stealing... Just curious if anyone knows that answer.... ???

Doesn't matter anyway DA Rice cuts deals with everyone. All she cares about is conviction rates not locking up criminals.

Liberal minded Polly Ana: Thesemen are probably unemployed in Maine, I doubt that they could even affort to return for a court hearing! There could be absence of malice here. Perhaps these men are licensed men out of work in Maine, who heard there was work in the area and simply came desperately looking for an honest day's work for an honest day's pay! This story only shows how harshly some people have been impacted by our economy, probably licensed in Maine and desperate for work. They headed out like the pioneers of the past, who built this country, searching for opportunity.

What's to look into? Neil Koenig was the owner. He's good friends with my cousin. My cousin toldRead More me "he couldn't make a go of it." The last time I was there was in December. The food was just ok and the service was horrible. Not one course was correct and we didn't even change anything from the menu description. Note to the waitress, the appetizer is NOT supposed to come for dessert!! And Rich is correct. The name was Buongusto's PieSano's. I hope the new owners (Lia's) stop serving Chocolate Mouse (should be Mousse) as per the sign on the Prospect Avenue side of the building.

There are many people behind the scenes who have worked for months in advance to make this eventRead More successful. Due to business and personal commitments, it is impossible to get them together again on short notice.

Unfortunately, the cancellation stands.
