Police: East Meadow Motorist Fatally Strikes Man with Vehicle

The 97 year-old man was killed while crossing the street in Amityville.

An East Meadow resident was involved in a crash in Amityville that took the life of a Massapequa Park man Sunday afternoon.

According to Suffolk County Police, at approximately 4:45 p.m. Roy Coar, 97, of Massapequa Park, was walking across Broadway near Locust Drive when he was struck by a 2004 Honda Accord that was going southbound on Broadway.

Coar was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car, Jason Castellano, 30, of East Meadow, was not injured in the crash, Suffolk Police said.

Police said that the investigation is continuing, and the vehicle has been impounded for a safety check. It's not known whether any criminality is suspected at this time.
