Police: East Meadow Man Choked Teenage Girl

The defendant then allegedly resisted arrest after police were called.

An East Meadow man was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly attemping to choke a teenage girl and then resisting arrest.

According to Nassau County detectives, around 7:31 p.m., First Precinct police officers were advised of an altercation between a male and female in the vicinity of Merrick Avenue and Kalda Lane. As officers approached, they observed Dayquan Holmes, 20, with his hands around the neck of a 19-year-old female victim.

When officers attempted to place Holmes into custody, he became combative, refusing their commands and flailing his arms, police said. A struggle ensued and two officers and Holmes fell to the ground.

Holmes was eventually placed into custody, police said. One officer was removed to an area hospital where he was treated and released for a leg injury. No other injuries were reported.

Holmes was charged with assault in the second degree, criminal obstruction of breathing, resisting arrest and menacing in the third degree. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
