On Feb. 13, just after 7 p.m., the Nassau County 911 system dispatched County Ambulance 2363 to a cardiac at a 2nd street residence located in the shadows of the .
East Meadow's EMS Response vehicle, manned by EMT John McGee, heard the call and offered his assistant to Unit 2363, operated by Cathleen Jones-Walsh, a career Medic who spent nearly 10 years volunteering as well with the Engine Co. 4. Both units were on the road within one minute of the radio announcement.
With McGee radioing East Meadow Fire Dispatch of his response to assist, EMFD Chiefs, under the direction of Chief Carl Pugliese, also responded to assist.
As radio's announced the situation to be a cardiac arrest, both EMS units were arriving on the scene, as did Emergency Ambulance Bureau Supervisor Bernard.
Quickly McGee and NCPD Officer Moran moved the patient to the living room floor where efforts to save a life began with quality CPR, while Medic Walsh prepared for Advance Life Support intervention, including an advanced life support airway.
As the patient was electronically analyzed with a defibrillator, the team shocked the patient once with success, as fluids and medication continued. Within minutes the patient developed a strong pulse and blood pressure.
Once stabilized in the emergency room, the patient was moved to the Cardiac Care Unit where she continues medical care and treatment.
