Pedestrian Killed by Car on Hempstead Turnpike

The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center and succumbed to injuries.

A pedestrian was struck by a car and killed Thursday night in the vicinity of Franklin Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike, police say.

According to police, after the crash, the victim was transported to and succumbed to injuries. Police have not identified the victim. According to reports, the accident occurred around 11:30 p.m.

Hempstead Turnpike was shut down eastbound at Franklin Avenue, and traffic was diverted onto side streets while First Precinct officers investigated at the scene. It's unknown whether any criminality is suspected.
