Overturned Truck Creates Logjam on Hempstead Turnpike

A truck overturned at the corner of Merrick Avenue and Hempstead Turnpike Wednesday morning, and nobody was injured in the accident.

According to police, just before 7 a.m., the driver was traveling southbound on Merrick Avenue and attempted to make a left turn to head east on Hempstead Turnpike. The truck toppled over in front of , spewing debris to the ground as a result.

First precinct officers shut down traffic heading eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike at Merrick Avenue as workers tried to clear the roadway, and as of 9 a.m., the road was still closed. There were problems on the westbound side of Hempstead Turnpike as well, as the accident created a logjam between Merrick Avenue and East Meadow Avenue.
