NUMC Employee Arrested for Assaulting Patient

The accused allegedly grabbed a 6-year-old boy around the neck after the child cursed at him.

A patient care assistant at (NUMC) was arrested Tuesday for allegedly grabbing a 6-year-old patient by the neck on Oct. 29, Third Precinct detectives said.

According to police, Third Precinct officers responded to a disturbance at NUMC that was between Azoumana Ouattara, 45, of Freeport, and a 6-year-old boy. After police investigated, it was determined that Ouattara allegedly put his hands on the child while he was caring for the boy, which caused lacerations to the neck.

Detectives say Ouattara became angry after the boy directed profanity towards him.

Ouattara is charged with second-degree assault, strangulation and endangering the welfare of a child. He is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead on Nov. 16.
