The incident occurred on Sunday.

A Man was struck and killed by a train heading westbound at the Merrick LIRR Station Sunday night, LIRR officials confirmed.

According to Aaron Donovan, a spokesman for the Long Island Rail Road, the train that struck the man was the westbound 10:27 p.m. from Babylon that was due at Penn Station at 11:44 p.m.

Donovan did not reveal the age and name of the deceased, and the details on what happened are still under investigation. Initially, an MTA officer that was aboard, as well as passengers, told Patch at the scene that the deceased was a woman, but that has since been confirmed to be false.
