Nassau County Corrections Officer Dies in Crash

The cause of the accident is unknown, according to police.

An off-duty Nassau County Corrections officer was killed on the westbound side of the Southern State Parkway between exits 20 and 21 Tuesday, police said.

According to Newsday, Frank Milano, 36, of Elmont, died just after midnight when his Toyota Camera veered off the parkway into a wooded area, striking trees.

The officer was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The Southern State Parkway was shut down until 2:50 a.m. while officers investigated the crash. The cause of the accident is unknown.
