Motorcycle Crash Shuts Down Merrick Avenue

The condition of the motorists is unknown, although police say there were no fatalities.

Merrick Avenue was shut down Monday morning due to a motorcycle accident right in front of the .

According to police, nobody was killed in the crash.

The cause of the accident, which happened just before 7 a.m., is unknown, and first precinct detectives on scene did not comment on whether any criminality is suspected. The motorcycle was wedged under the front tires of an ambulance. The extent of the injuries suffered by motorists is unknown.

"There were no fatalities," police said. "This is being treated as an accident."

Police diverted traffic to side streets between Peters Gate and Hempstead Turnpike, and drivers were forced to use alternative routes. There were increased traffic levels on Merrick Avenue as well.

Police were allowing the parents of children who attend camp at the East Meadow Sports Complex around the scene.
