A man walked away unscathed Thursday after his minivan went up in flames on Gerald Avenue in East Meadow.
According to the driver, who asked to remain anonymous, he was driving northbound on East Meadow Avenue towards Hempstead Turnpike just after 8:30 a.m. when he realized that there was "some bubbling under the hood."
"There was a lot of traffic," he said. "Just to be safe, I pulled over, and that's when the front went up in flames."
He made a left onto Gerald Avenue and pulled over to be away from the morning congestion, and then emergency officials responded.
The was the first on scene to extinguish the flames. The driver said that he knows things could have been much worse.
"I am happy that I am alright," he said. "Also, that could have been a lot worse if the car was on fire on East Meadow Avenue."
