A Massapequa Park man faces jail time after he allegedly trashed more than 1,000 pieces of mail instead of delivering them, according to multiple reports.

Patrick Paskett, 24, of Massapequa Park, was arraigned at Brooklyn Federal Court on felony destruction of mail charges, the New York Post reported.

Federal investigators began watching Paskett after Seaford and Massapequa Park residents on his route reported missing letters and packages, reported the New York Post. Special Agent Steven DeMayo tracked Paskett and spotted him tossing a stack of mail into a garbage can on March 6, said the report.

Agents recovered 1,018 pieces of mail Paskett chucked, including 144 pieces of first-class mail, said the report. He reportedly threw out mail on 15 different occasions since December.

It happened. I resigned. I don’t work for them anymore. It’s over,” Paskett told New York Post. Meanwhile, a USPS spokesperson told them he is still employed, though not delivering mail, pending the outcome of the case.

In a federal court complaint, Paskett admitted he knew what he was doing was wrong, said the report.

Paskett faces up to five years in prison if convicted of the charges. After being released on his own recognizance, he was reportedly not yet scheduled for his return to court as of Tuesday.

I live in Massapequa Park, it has been really crazy lately, sometimes i get the mail at 10 am sometimes I get it after 6pm and a few times I didn't get it at all, I don't have the same mailman everyday and haven't for the past year, I think my regular mailman must be part time now, so its pot luck..

USPS Full Time Benefits: Basic pay rate, Federal Employees Health Benefit Program, defined benefit annuity at retirement, thrift savings program, Federal Employee's Group Life Insurance Program, flexible savings accounts, and overtime-night differential-and Sunday premium pay. How many of his peers outside the USPS have this benefit package? He disrespected an honorable profession that many have supported and raised a family on.
