Instinct Turns into Action at East Meadow Accident Scene

One Wantagh EMT happened to be shopping at Walmart when the accident occurred.

For Marvin Berg, helping people that are in trouble is just second nature.

Berg, a Wantagh EMT and nurse in the emergency room at the , happened to be shopping for vegetable plants and potting soil at Walmart in East Meadow at 11 a.m. Friday when he between a van, which contained four passengers, and a car, which held two people. Berg ran over and jumped in help.

"I heard the sound of a crash," Berg said. "Someone said there was an overturn, so I ran over there."

All six were transported to NUMC with minor injuries, officials said.

Berg worked diligently with rescuers to help extricate the people from their vehicles, and he said that the situation wasn't as bad as the accident looked.

"It could have been a lot worse," he said. "These people were upside down and restrained, but thank god they were okay."

Traffic was log-jammed between Old Westbury Road and Hempstead Turnpike on Newbridge Road for over an hour while the cleared debris out of the roadway. All roads were reopened at 12:40 p.m.
