UPDATE: Inmate Killed in Fight at County Jail

Long Beach man identified as deceased inmate, while sheriff's office continues to investigate incident.

Update Jan. 7, 9:21 p.m.

An inmate at the was killed Saturday morning after getting into a fight with another prisoner, according to Nassau Police.

The inmate has been idetified as , 26, from Long Beach. According to Nassau Police, Brown, became involved in a physical confrontation with a fellow inmate before 7 a.m. Saturday. He suffered several contusions and was pronounced dead by hospital staff shortly after.

The other prisoner is currently in custody. Homicide detectives are still investigating the incident.

There were three incidents in which in 2010, which Newsday reports represents a third of all suicides in county facilities statewide.

All inmate deaths that aren't from natural causes are typically investigated by the state Commission of Correction, the agency that regulates all lockups, jails, prison and police detention facilities in New York State. Spokeswomen for the agency couldn't be reached Saturday.
