Update: Hempstead Man Arrested For DWI in East Meadow

Errol Brown, 24, was charged with driving while intoxicated and caused his three passengers to be hospitalized.

Updated Dec. 5 at 6:15 p.m.

A Hempstead Man was arrested in East Meadow on Saturday after he allegedly drove while intoxicated on Southern State Parkway, causing his three passengers to be injured, New York State Police said.

According to police, Errol Brown, 24, was driving a 2006 Nissan eastbound on the Southern State Parkway with three passengers when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the trees along the southern shoulder of the roadway.

All of the occupants in the vehicle, including Brown, were injured and transported to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment.

Brown was charged with driving while intoxicated and faces additional vehicle and traffic law charges in relation to the crash.

woah, another fascinating Patch article chock full of details. No exit number, no type of car and wait not even a time. Prehaps the best part is I'm 99% sure the SSP does not even run through East Meadow, rather Merrick and Bellmore. Local news?

Not to impinge on the journalistic integrity of the patch but the perp was arrested in East Meadow at NUMC
Tricia December 06, 2012 at 12:58 PM
thought I read the same article. It states: 2006 Nissan.... thought that was a type of car? The point is .. yet another drunk driver taken off the road, unfortunately not before injury but thankfully no one killed. Maybe you would like to write the articles for us...articles that would be "chock full of details".

It seems like my comment was removed for reasons unbeknownst to me, unless something is wrong with my Patch page, so I will repost. If this is a duplicate then I apologize in advance. I initially commented right after Aaron. 7:08 pm on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 I was just going to say that. The Southern State Parkway runs SOUTH of East Meadow. It's not in East Meadow at all. So unless the police dragged this guy about a mile north first, he was NOT arrested on the Southern State Pkwy in East Meadow!! Doesn't anyone check facts anymore?
Susan December 06, 2012 at 03:53 PM
Then shouldn't it state that in the article.... that the man was arrested at NUMC which is in East Meadow? It's very ambiguous.

On this Patch site, no, not at all. Huge accident on Hempstead Tpke last night, nothing on here. Bring back Mike Ganci, he was great. Now it's a joke for the most part. Which is too bad as being a former East Meadow resident, I'd like to keep up to date.
Susan December 06, 2012 at 04:49 PM
I totally agree with you about Mike Ganci. The East Meadow Patch is no longer the same. He was everywhere!!

Sorry you feel that way Aaron and Susan, however, Danielle is working around the clock to cover this great community. She tracks down stories and tries hard to build engagement and foster conversation on the site. If there's a story you think we're missing or something you'd like to see more of on the site, please let us know! Thanks for reading East Meadow Patch! Trying to be productive not criticize as I'm in the media myself, but a couple things: 1. Mike would also break news quickly, before anyone else i.e. Newsday. Last night, a major car crash on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow and nothing on here. I think Mike was a genie but he would be there and post before I ever heard the news on Facebook. 2. Basic journalist principles. Many stories fail to answer the basic Five W's. i.e. Running a story about a teacher but omitting her last name. Nothing a phone call could not solve 3. Accuracy. As mentioned above, SSP does not even enter EM borders and when this story was first posted, it had nothing to it. Similarly, Danielle's bio still says 'Bellmore Patch' 4. Coverage. As mentioned, I live out of town now and want to hear what is happening in my town. Again, Mike had numerous posts daily with real news, now it seems to be nothing. That said, I know journalism is a thankless job with long hours but hopefully we can work together to make EM Patch what it used to be under Mike and even has the potential to be. Thanks Jaime.

My son said the turnpike near Newbridge was closed and there were several cop cars. This was around 4:30.

The first paragraph says it all "A Hempstead Man was arrested in East Meadow on Saturday after he allegedly drove while intoxicated on Southern State Parkway, causing his three passengers to be injured, New York State Police said. " You should all read it again. No where does it say the driver was arrested at the scene of the accident which was on the Southern State. When the injured were transported for medical attention Nassau's Finest conducted an investigation while the driver was being treated at the hospital realizing he was drunk at the time of the accident. Where is the issue. Please - take a chill pill.. He was charged while being treated at the hospital.... Good investigation by the police...

you should read the article before they posted an update

My mother said she saw the same accident...at least 8 police cars, CVS's sign was down and the car was overturned. We haven't been able to find any news source reporting details of this accident.
paul December 08, 2012 at 02:13 AM
Details of the accident: Accident happened on Dcember 05, 2012. Road closed both ways for a while. Road reopens to traffic. Both cars towed away from the scene. It is over..... See, hope that helps..... By the way it was on 1010WINS radio traffic report at the time....

Yes four people injured in that crash. The driver died on December 6, 2012. All involved grew up together in Hempstead. Very sad, and unfortunate. RIP Errol Brown
