The driver of the car sustained minor injuries.

A car flipped over on Hempstead Turnpike at Bright Avenue Monday night, although the driver only sustained minor injuries.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m., and Hempstead Turnpike had to be closed on the eastbound side for over an hour while officials cleared debris out of the roadway.

Both the East Meadow Fire Department and Nassau County Police responded at the scene.

Police say the cause of the accident is "unknown" at this point.

Patch will provide additional information once it is obtained.

Pleased to hear everyone was okay. Unfortunately, the driver will feel it today when the adrenaline is over. That's my block and it is dangerous no matter what time of day. During the day you shoot out hoping for the best after sitting there for waiting for some one to be courteous and let you out. At night you pull out knowing vehicles are in the far left lane then surprise they are in the right lane. Many accidents happen there.

Hempstead turnpike in general is dangerous. The people that drive on the roads are not courteous at all god for bid they should let a car in front of them. I had a friend when I was a child get hit on Bright Ave and Hempstead walking to school she was brought to the hospital and died a week later at on 14 years old it was a terrible tragedy to this community, she was loved by many. I also had another friend hit by a car by the hospital luckily for her it was minor injuries and she was ok. I really feel they should make a cross walk like the have for hofstra students for the East Meadow HS I am always nervous when my children have to walk to and from school.

What's to look into? Neil Koenig was the owner. He's good friends with my cousin. My cousin toldRead More me "he couldn't make a go of it." The last time I was there was in December. The food was just ok and the service was horrible. Not one course was correct and we didn't even change anything from the menu description. Note to the waitress, the appetizer is NOT supposed to come for dessert!! And Rich is correct. The name was Buongusto's PieSano's. I hope the new owners (Lia's) stop serving Chocolate Mouse (should be Mousse) as per the sign on the Prospect Avenue side of the building.
