Fire Reported in Prospect Avenue Home

One woman was home, although she wasn't injured.

An elderly woman escaped harm Thursday after a fire started in her Prospect Avenue home.

The cause of the incident is unknown, according to Assistant Chief Walter Griffin. When the EMFD received the call at 10:47 a.m., Griffin and Assistant Chief Robert Salveson Jr. responded. The North Bellmore Fast Team provided assistance as well.

“The engine company was really impressive and made a really good stop,” Griffin said. “They confined it to the one room of origin.”

Firefighters vented the smoke from the residence, and they made sure carbon dioxide levels returned to a safe level before leaving the residence.

Traffic was halted between Linda Drive and Garden Lane while firefighters secured the area.

Not sure why that happened. May have been a technical error.
