Expectant Couple Endures Car Accident Scare

After the woman went into labor, their car was rear ended.

An expectant couple on their way to the hospital had quite  a scare when their car was rear-ended Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the couple was driving to at 4 p.m. after the woman's water broke, and they were rear-ended by another vehicle at the intersection of Merrick Avenue and Front Street. No injuries were sustained, police said.

Following the incident, the couple was transported via ambulance to the hospital, and police do not believe the woman gave birth in the car.

It's unknown what the extent of the damage to the couple's vehicle is, but police say this could have been worse.

"They were lucky," police added. "Now they can focus on their new baby at the hospital."
