EMFD Offers Water Safety Tips, Participates in Pool Drill

The East Meadow Fire Department shares important information residents should keep in mind while enjoying the last days of summer poolside.

For many, Labor Day weekend is a chance to bid summer a fond farewell. Many residents will spend the three-day weekend with family and friends at backyard barbecues, pool parties and the beach.

The East Meadow Fire Department has provided on its website important safety information to keep in mind while enjoying time in and/or near the water.

During a recent hands-on drill at the Town of Hempstead community pool on Prospect Avenue, members of Rescue Company 4, 5 and 6199 Squad teamed up with the Town's lifeguarding staff to review their response to anything from diving accidents to drownings.

Volunteers followed all EMS protocols during the drill, according to firefighter John J. O'Brien, Sr.

Annually, the EMS system of the East Meadow Fire Department runs more than 50 trainings and attends numerous specialized training and/or seminars.
