East Meadow Man Arrested for DWI

New York State Police arrested Kevin M. Benik after he allegedly had a .09 percent BAC.

New York State Police arrested an East Meadow man early Saturday morning for a DWI on the Southern State Parkway.

At approximately 2:15 a.m., state troopers observed Kevin M. Benik, 31, of East Meadow, operating a 2006 Mercedes Benz westbound on the Southern State Pkwy at a speed of 85 mph in 55-mph zone and changing lanes unsafely without signaling. His vehicle was stopped near exit 32, police said.

According to police, subsequent investigation revealed Benik to be intoxicated and he was placed under arrest. He was transported to New York State Police headquarters in Farmingdale where he provided a breath sample of .09 percent BAC.

Benik has been charged with driving while intoxicated, speeding and other traffic violations returnable to Suffolk County First District Court.

The charges are only an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
