Georgia Man Arrested for Driving Wrong Way on Hempstead Turnpike

Jean Deshommes, 31, was under the influence of alcohol when he was arrested Friday morning.

A George man was arrested Friday morning after driving the wrong way on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow.

According to police, Jean Deshommes, 31, was observed at approximately 5 a.m. driving his 2003 Honda westbound in the eastbound lanes of Hempstead Turnpike. Police say that the vehicle traveled approximately 100 yards in the wrong direction before Deshommes was subsequently pulled over. An officer than discovered that Deshommes was operating under the influence of an alcoholic beverage, and Deshommes was arrested. No injuries were reported.

This is the second instance in less than a month of driving the wrong way on Hempstead Turnpike. On Dec. 12, Bernadette Behensky, 20, was allegedly operating her 2005 Volvo while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage when she also

Deshommes was charged with traveling while intoxicated, as well as various vehicle and traffic law violations. He will be arraigned in first district court on Friday.
