Crimes Nearby Part I: Students Followed, Items Stolen

Recent criminal activity reported in southeast Nassau County communities.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

Bellmore

  • On April 24, between 2-5 a.m., a locked vehicle was broken into on Stewart Avenue in North Bellmore, and a bronze gear shifter was stolen.
  • Nassau County Police released a sketch on April 29 of a “suspicious person” that’s sought in connection to the string of stranger incidents throughout the Bellmore-Merrick area in April. Click here to take a look.
  • An increased police presence was reported at Saw Mill Road Elementary School on the morning of April 30 after a teacher's aide saw someone resembling the police sketch that cops released on Monday. Click this link for more.
  • On April 27 at 2:10 a.m., Jessica Haas, 24, of Gilbert, AZ, was arrested at the intersection of Bellmore Avenue and Sunrise Highway and charged with seventh-degree criminal Possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated and a violation of the vehicle and traffic law.
East Meadow
  • On April 30, two students were approached by a man as they were walking on Bellmore Road and Granz Court. For more details, click here.
