Crime Report: Recycling Thieves, Burglaries, Farr Case

Crimes reported by the first and third precincts, as well as Virginia State Police.

Suspected identity thieves in the northern parts of East Meadow and Salisbury, near Clearmeadow Drive and Salisbury Park Drive.

The suspected assailants drive around, circling neighborhoods in a white van during the hours before recycling is picked up, looking for papers with information that can be used in identity theft, according to Legis. Norma Gonsalves, R-East Meadow.

  • After initially reporting that Robert Cerny wearing a seatbelt in the accident that took his life on Interstate 95 in Virginia, State Police released a revised report Tuesday that stated that Cerny wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
  • The of the Nassau County Crime lab has led people to question the in James Farr's DWI case. Farr's attorney is now seeking dismissal of the homicide conviction. 
  • At the on Wednesday, it was disclosed that there were two reported break-ins in Salisbury thus far this month. No one was hurt or injured. Neither of the suspects in the two cases has been caught. In the first break-in, a teen wearing all black entered an unlocked home, and fled empty-handed when homeowners sighted him. In the second break-in, assailants rang the doorbell of a home where a woman was showering. When she did not answer the door, the robbers broke in through the back door with a crowbar and stole jewelry.
  • On Feb. 14 at 8:30 a.m., a house on Arleigh Road was broken into. After the front door was kicked in, an unspecified amount of jewelry was stolen from the residence.
  • On Feb. 14 at 8:30 p.m., the leather seats were removed from a car that was parked on Midland Drive in East Meadow.
  • On Feb. 18 at 6:30 p.m., a home on Birch Avenue was burglarized. Nobody was injured, but jewelry was taken from the home.
