Crime Report: Manslaughter, DWI, Burglary

The following arrest information was supplied by the Nassau County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

A Town of Hempstead Public Safety officer and charged with driving while intoxicated and manslaughter after he allegedly killed a man who was crossing Hempstead Turnpike, Nassau County police said on Friday.

According to detectives, Robert Core, 42, of Hempstead, was responding to an emergency call in Levittown just before 11:30 p.m. when he struck a 50-year-old male, identified as Eddie Albert Cotto, of Lindenhurst, who was crossing southbound on Hempstead Turnpike in the vicinity of Franklin Avenue. Core was driving a Town of Hempstead Public Safety Vehicle.

  • Police have for a string break-ins at phone stores across Nassau County from November 2010 through January 2011, according to officials. According to police, the men, identified as Valon Vailes, 19, of Hempstead and Charles Siebert, 18, Kareem Edney, 19, and Trevon Thompson, 18, all of Freeport, were allegedly responsible for the theft of iPads and cell phones.
  • A Deer Park man on July 8 morning for DWI after he was caught speeding on the Meadowbrook Parkway in East Meadow. According to state police, just after 2 a.m., Michael Bonomo, 31, was pulled over after he was caught traveling 90 miles per hour. While interviewing Bonomo, the state trooper detected "a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage," police said. Bonomo allegedly failed sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for DWI, according to officials.
  • A Levittown woman on burglary charges after she allegedly stole money from her landlord in East Meadow. According to detectives, Ashley Bagnati, 23, a tenant in the 51-year-old victim’s apartment, was observed on surveillance camera entering the victim’s bedroom and removing $80 from a dresser drawer.
  • Sometime between 2:05 p.m. and 6:05 p.m.on July 5, a vehicle parked on East Meadow Avenue had its windows broken, and property was stolen.
  • On July 6, graffity was found on a building on East Meadow Avenue.
  • On July 10, between 9-10 p.m., a vehicle that was parked at was broken into and items were removed.
