Crime Report: Bomb Threat, Slain Officer

Crimes reported by the first and third precincts, as well as New York State Police.

A in to on Thursday night, although officials later deemed the incident to be "not serious." According to police, the call originated from inside the psychiatric ward of NUMC, and no threat was present. No evacuations were needed in lieu of the incident.

  • A Nassau County Police officer on March 12 in Massapequa Park, police said. The victim, a plain-clothed special operations officer, was reportedly chasing a suspect near the Long Island Rail Road along Front Street when he was shot by another cop. The deceased was later identified as Geoffrey J. Breitkopf, 40, a 12-year vet.
  • The woman who was seriously injured in a March 2 motorcyle crash on North Jerusalem Road has been " [and has been moved] out of  the intensive care unit to a medical/surgical floor," according to Shelley Lotenberg, director of Public affairs at Nassau University Medical Center.
