Crime Nearby: Rash of Vehicle Damage at Merrick LIRR Station; Man Charged with Manslaughter

Bellmore

  • Police are searching for two men who robbed an apartment in North Bellmore at gunpoint on Sept. 13. Read the full story .
  • James Brtalik, 24, of North Bellmore was arrested on Bellmore Avenue near Wilson Avenue and was charged with driving while intoxicated and one violation of the Vehicle and Traffic Law on Sept. 9.
  • An item was removed from a car parked on Oak Street sometime between Sept. 8 and Sept. 9.

 

East Meadow

  • Sometime between Sept. 2 and Sept. 5, vehicles parked in driveway were damaged and empty alcoholic beverage cans and bottles were found in the yard of a home on Bellmore Avenue.
  • There was damage done to the tires of a car that was parked on East Meadow Avenue on Sept. 5.
  • On Sept. 6, a shoplifter removed $704 worth of items from the on Hempstead Turnpike.
  • Around 5 p.m. on Sept. 7, a laptop was stolen from a vehicle that was parked on Front Street. The vehicle was unlocked.
  • Sometime between Sept. 10 and Sept. 11, the front door of a residence on Gates Street was damaged.
  • On Sept. 11, an East Meadow man was charged with manslaughter in the death of a New York City Police officer. See the full story .

 

Merrick

  • Sometime between Sept. 5 and Sept. 6, an unknown suspect(s) stole a laptop from a 2010 white Jeep Liberty by breaking the rear window. The Jeep was parked on Argyle Road.
  • Sometime on Sept. 6, a vehicle window was broken and items were removed from a car parked in the Merrick railroad station.
  • Between 6:30 a.m. and 11 p.m., a vehicle was damaged and items were removed from the vehicle which was parked at the Merrick railroad station.
  • A vehicle was damaged and items were removed on Sept. 6 between 7:50 a.m. and 8 p.m. at the Merrick railroad station.
  • On Sept. 8, a vehicle was damaged and items were removed at the Merrick railroad station.
  • Sometime between Sept. 8 and Sept. 9, it reported that an unknown suspect(s) broke the front passenger of a vehicle that was parked in Hewlett Avenue.
  • On Sept. 9, several bicycles were stolen from a home located on Chernucha Avenue by three black males. A member of the Neighborhood Watch program witnessed the theft and called police to the scene. The bicycles were taken to the station house and were picked up by the owner the next day after the bicycles were identified. Two juveniles and one adult were arrested.
  • There was extensive damage done to a vehicle that was parked on Willis Avenue on Sept. 10.

Seaford

  • Still Waters Restaurant on 2581 Ocean Ave., Seaford was burglarized on Sept. 5. With , cases of beer and bottles of liquor reported stolen. The point of entry was through a side door.
  • On Sept. 7, Ryan Kelly, 22 of West Islip was arrested at the headquarters and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny, second –degree forgery, two counts of second-degree identity theft and petit larceny.

 

Wantagh

  • An iPod was reported stolen from in Wantagh on Sept. 5.
  • A home on West Seamans Neck Road in Wantagh was burglarized on Sept. 12 with assorted jewelry taken. The point of entry was through a rear door.
  • Assorted jewelry was reported stolen from a home on Fortune Court in Wantagh between Aug. 4 and Sept. 4.
  • Bread was stuck in the tailpipe of a motorcycle parked on Merrick Road between Sept. 2-6.
  • A garbage can caught on fire in on Sept. 6.
  • The front window was discovered broken at on 1931 Wantagh Ave., Wantagh between on Sept. 10.
  • A man reported to police on Sept. 11 that an onboard motor had been stolen from his boat on Hempstead Lane in Wantagh.
  • Two vehicles parked on Walters Avenue in Wantagh were reported damaged on Sept. 11.
