Crime Nearby: Arrest Made in Bellmore LIRR Death, Drunk Driving

Recent criminal activity reported in southeast Nassau County communities.

The following information is taken directly from the Nassau County Police Department's incident reports. None of the defendants have been convicted of a crime.

Bellmore

  • A 34-year-old man was arrested for his role in an assault at the Bellmore Long Island Rail Road Station that led to the death of a 49-year-old Freeport man, LIRR officials said. For more on this, click here.

  • Sometime between 3:44 a.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 13, a bike was stolen from the Bellmore LIRR Station bike rack.

  • Sometime between 8:30 p.m. Aug. 12 and 5:30 a.m. Aug. 13, another bike was stolen from a front lawn on Natta Boulevard.

  • Sometime between 8:30 p.m. Aug. 12 and 2:30 a.m. Aug. 13, another bike was stolen from a front lawn on Airway Drive.

  • Sometime between 11 p.m. Aug. 12 and 6 a.m. Aug. 13, glue was found inside the door lock at Laurvan Drugs, which is located at 1893 Bellmore Ave.

  • Sometime between 1:30 and 3 p.m. Aug. 13, a complainant left their cell phone in the bathroom at Dunkin’ Donuts on Merrick Road. When he returned to retrieve it, it was gone.

  • Sometime between 9 a.m. Aug. 18 and 11 a.m. Aug. 19, aluminum scrap metal was stolen from the front and rear yard on Soma Avenue.

  • Merrick

    • Sometime between 10-11 p.m. Aug. 14, items were removed from an unlocked vehicle on Gildersleeve Street in Merrick.

    • On Aug. 16, at 3 a.m., a bike was stolen from a garage on Elliot Place.

    • At 8:21 p.m. Aug. 18, the complainant discovered scratch marks down the driver’s side of her vehicle on Robbin Lane.

    • On Aug. 16, at 10:55 p.m., Megan Griffo, 42, of Massapequa Park, was arrested at the intersection of Merrick Road and Babylon Turnpike and charged with driving while intoxicated and five violations of the vehicle and traffic law.

    • At 2:45 a.m. Aug. 20, Kayla Gorman, 22, of East Islip, was arrested at the intersection of Frankel Boulevard and Merrick Road and charged with driving while intoxicated and two violations of the vehicle and traffic law.

    Wantagh

    • A Brooklyn man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly drove drunk with a baby in the car and was involved in a two-vehicle crash on the Southern State Parkway, cops said. Click here for more.

    • Sometime between 7:50 a.m. and 1 p.m. Aug. 19, a bike cable was cut and a bike was stolen while it was at Wantagh High School.

    • Sometime between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. Aug. 16, someone put glue in the locks of Astoria Federal Savings Bank on Wantagh Avenue.

    • On Aug. 18 at 2:55 a.m., Elissa Lebron, 42, of Howard Beach, was arrested at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Wantagh Avenue and charged with driving while intoxicated and three violations of the vehicle and traffic law.

    Levittown
    • On Aug. 15, at 1 a.m., a volunteer fire department ID was stolen from a car parked on Loring Road.

    • Sometime between 11 and 11:45 a.m. Aug. 19, a gas saw, levels, hammers and blades were stolen from a car parked at Target.
