Cops: Man Dies in Hempstead Turnpike Crash

Five Towns man lost control of his car in East Meadow Monday night, cops said.

A Five Towns man has died after he lost control of his car and struck two utility poles on Hempstead Turnpike, according to Nassau County Police.

Detectives said Paul Wentz, 50, of Cedarhurst, was driving west on Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow when he lost control of his car. His Subaru Outback crossed over the divider to the opposite side of the street before striking the two utility poles, cops said. Wentz's car flipped over in the accident, police stated.

The collision happened at 7:08 p.m. Monday near the Meadowbrook Parkway, police said.

A Nassau County ambulance rushed Wentz to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 7:34 p.m., cops said.

Wentz's car was impounded for safety inspections. Third Squad detectives are still investigating the accident.
