Cops: Juvenile Robbed on Prospect Avenue

Police say two suspects motioned as if they had a gun and demanded items from the victim's pockets.

A juvenile was walking on Prospect Avenue in East Meadow Saturday night with two friends when police say they were approached by two suspects who robbed him.

According to Nassau Police detectives, the suspects - both described as black males wearing hooded sweatshirts - demanded one victim empty his pockets. One suspect allegedly simulated having a gun in his sweatshirt. The victim complied, handing over cash.

The suspects fled on foot southbound on Prospect Avenue. No injuries reported at this time.

Detectives ask anyone with information about this crime to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.  All callers will remain anonymous.

Just curious, Prospect Avenue and where? Thank you...
Frank T September 30, 2012 at 08:44 PM
This is not the first time that this type of robbery has occured this year in EM. The cops have no interest in pursuing these types of crime until someone gets hurt or killed.

That is sooooo not true.......
sherryl garry September 30, 2012 at 09:50 PM
what time and where did this occur?
Jaime Sumersille September 30, 2012 at 10:51 PM
@Paul - no intersection was provided by police. @ Sherryl Garry - around 9:45 p.m. Jaime Sumersille Regional Editor, Nassau County

Sources I have in EMFD say it was Prospect & Chestnut .... not sure why Patch couldn't make some calls to find out too
paul September 30, 2012 at 11:29 PM
To Aaron: If it is not from the PD it is not reliable information.....
Aaron September 30, 2012 at 11:53 PM
When EMFD responded to the scene and my sources are high up (two people), it is pretty reliable. Both PD and FD are first responders.
paul September 30, 2012 at 11:58 PM
To Aaron: Like I said If it is not from the PD it is not reliable information..... FD is of little or no value for a police call.... Just buffs....

Two incidents one took place a Prospect and Chestnut and the other took place on the football field at Woodland Middle School. Same MO, similar descriptions of the perps. Woodland incident, four males. Prospect incident two males, all described as white or latino with black hoodies and bandanas covering their faces.

Sounds like a bunch of local yo-yo's doing this.. no car in involved.. fled on foot.. similar MO at woodland. which if not a local.. its pretty tough to drive around the area surrounding woodland , if your not familiar with , while trying to flee after robbing someone.. a gun was "simulated" but not actually shown.. sounds like a couple of pre-driving local teens.. JUST MY OPINION .. not basing anything on fact.. Just trying to look outside the box..

To Frank T: Are you kidding me? The cops have no interest? Sounds like you may have had a bad run in with them. The First Precinct Police Officers are some of the most dedicated around. Where are you when they are chasing (and catching) the robbery suspects, home invasion suspects, drug dealers, gang member assaults and so on? Oh that's right. You are in the comfort of your nice warm home safe and sound. Don't believe the one sided stories that Newsrag publishes. The crime rate in Nassau is ever growing as its population is as well. Economy is bad so times are bad. Don't blame the cops

To my knowledge Prospect runs east and west not north and south
Frank T October 01, 2012 at 02:05 PM
The crime rate is growing as a result of the economy and I don't blame the police for the increase in crime. Although when crime was lower the police union took full credit for low crime due to our outstanding police force. Crime was low due to a good economy and mostly families living in the suburbs. The police force did not prevent crimes. They are very good at responding to calls and are very professional. Maybe my gripe should be with the higher ups or the detectives. There has not been an increased patrol presence in East Meadow even though there has been a rash of car breakins and now armed robberies. No I don't feel safe in my "nice warm home". How did you know my air conditioner broke down :).

I grew up on Chestnut - I find this to be very scary.

The 'police force' does prevent crime.
EM Neighborhood watch October 01, 2012 at 04:26 PM
@Frank T! I'm with you. I reside in EM for over 36 years and the crime has been getting out of control. I just found out from online websites, we're all familiar with, that there are two 13 year old drug dealers in Woodland and now moved into the High School.. Notified the Principle of the two so they can be stopped. Heard one was caught smoking at a football game/practice.. These perps are locals and walking with BB guns or air soft guns. I see this all the time near prospect park, aka Veterns Memorial park. The patrol officers are good but nothing is followed up on unless someone is hurt. We need more DTs in the 1st...

To EM Neighborhood watch: ( a fancy name with nothing to back it up) Anyway, you stated: "I'm with you. I reside in EM for over 36 years and the crime has been getting out of control. I just found out from online websites, we're all familiar with, that there are two 13 year old drug dealers in Woodland and now moved into the High School.. Notified the Principle of the two so they can be stopped. Heard one was caught smoking at a football game/practice.." You think there is only one... HAHAHAHAHAHA, you make me laugh, get a grip on reality.... You also stated: "These perps are locals and walking with BB guns or air soft guns. I see this all the time near prospect park, aka Veterns Memorial park." These perps as you stated and you did nothing..... You really do need a reality check..... Just saying.....

Every time crime increases some liberal comes out of the woodwork and blames the economy. My generation grew up in a time when we all were poor but didn't know it because we weren't hanging around feeling sorry for ourselves. We all stood up on our two feet and... WORKED...for what we got. Put the blame where it belongs. A bunch of dirtbag punks preying on other kids because they can!
EM Neighborhood watch October 01, 2012 at 05:43 PM
@Paul. I have, I've reported all to the authorities and even given addresses. Would you care to share information with us? Reality check, I'm all ears.. :)
Frank T October 01, 2012 at 07:04 PM
Hey Mr. Eastwood, I believe it's more than a "bunch of dirtbag punks". There have been cars broken into all over EM and several robberies. I don't know how many since I don't read the actual police reports and rely on the Patch, Newsday and neighbors for info on crimes in EM. The point is crime is definitely up in EM why I don't know maybe drug use, economy and/or dirtbag punks. I just hope that the police are taking this serious and increase patrols.
Frank T October 01, 2012 at 07:21 PM
Jon L, Where did you get the descriptions of the individuals. According to the patch they were black males.
paul October 01, 2012 at 07:55 PM
Would like to know who "US" is???? "EM Neighborhood watch" which means nothing....
paul October 01, 2012 at 11:10 PM
To Robert: You are on target......
Brent M. October 02, 2012 at 12:26 AM
Hate to say it. but yes there is more than one kid drug dealer in this town.. not based on fact but common sense.. times are different then 5 years ago which are different than 10 years ago.. it seems that a heavy drug is now the addiction to prescription meds. the pain killers.. definately agree that it is a bunch of local kids robbing but also some of the homeless wandering around.. I do know from another resident that the cars being broken into was a white male in his 40's , slim and done in the 2-3am hour .. (he has surveillance cameras, that were checked next day).. his M.O.. walking non chalantly down sidewalk , then walking up to cars in driveway, checking to see if they unlocked and then, if not, walking away trying to blend like he fits in.. so just be aware and lets keep the streets safe.
