Update: Cops ID Town Worker Killed in Crash Friday

Town worker died after two sanitations trucks crash in East Meadow.

A Town of Hempstead worker has died after being involved in a collision between two sanitation trucks in East Meadow.

Jarred Newallo, 25, of Hempstead, died Friday morning after a sanitation truck he was riding slammed into another truck in East Meadow, confirmed Nassau County Police.

"Today is a very sad day for the Hempstead Town family," said Supervisor Kate Murray in a statement Friday. "A valued member of our workforce who was employed by the township’s Sanitation Department was involved in a tragic accident, and has succumbed to his injuries."

Murray said the ToH family is "deeply saddened" by the loss and that "the family of the victim is in our thoughts and prayers."

Nassau County Police said the collision happened before 9:30 a.m. Friday near Prospect Avenue and Chestnut Avenue in East Meadow.

Newallo was on the back of a sanitation truck that collided with another, said police. One sanitation truck tried to drive around another, only to strike a different sanitation truck, said cops.

Newallo was rushed to Nassau University Medical Center where he died at 10:15 a.m., officers said.

The area was closed until about 2 p.m. as emergency crews and officials secured the scene.

Detectives said no criminality is suspected in the collision.
