When Given An Inch, Don't Take a Mile

Rough patches happen. It's how you respond that defines you.

Last weekend, I found myself in an interesting predicament.

I was at my Uncle Artie's birthday party, and all of the eating options were not the best in terms of health. There was pasta (two kinds), meatballs, sausage, salad, as well as various deserts, such as ice cream, brownies and cake.

I had a plan going in. I'd load up on salad, and maybe I'd have a little pasta and have some meat. What I should've done was make myself chicken beforehand at home, but who am I to pass up a free meal?

I ended up taking a pretty large serving of pasta so go along with sausage, meatballs and salad. Not the end of the world. I grabbed a piece of Italian bread, but then I thought better of it. I was proud of myself...or so I thought.

When desert came around, that's when the wheels came off the wagon. I had a piece of cake (which was delicious) and a brownie. My mother gave me a look, because when I cheat even a little, it's a major event in my family's circle.

After I was done, I proceeded to head inside to watch the Mets' game, and my Aunt Linda came up to me with an ice cream pop, and I accepted. That was not a smart move.

Either way, I woke up the next morning and responded. Every day since Monday, I have done cardio and went for a walk. On Tuesday, I walked in the rain from south of North Jerusalem Road up Bellmore Road to the entrance of the Wantagh Parkway. The walk was a little over three miles. That's after I went to the Bellmore Personal Training Institute in the morning.

Speaking of the personal training, Sam Thomas has done a great job with me there. They know just how much to push me. I have a torn labrum in my shoulder, so they proceed with caution, but I feel better than I have in a very long time.

Now, I weigh 229, after my weight had approached 235, and I am proud of the way I have rebounded. I am motivated to keep strong, because, if you are given an inch, you will take a mile, as I did at my family party.

Also, stay strong. Believe in yourself, because you probably don't even know what you're capable of.
