What's the Nicest Thing Someone Did for You During the Storm?

If someone went out of their way for you before, after, or during the storm, tell us about them.

As Thanksgiving approaches next week, it's a good time to take notice of the kind things we do for one another. With Superstorm Sandy having just occurred a few weeks ago, we were thinking about all the ways that neighbors have been helping neighbors, both near and far.

There were heroes right here in East Meadow.

Do you have a story to share about something kind someone did for you? For your family member? For your friend? You don't necessarily have to use names — though we encourage you to recognize that special person. They deserve it, right? Share your stories in the comments below.

Our power went out on the night of the storm, Oct. 29. We suffered through the next couple days, hoping it would come back on before the temperature dropped at the end of the week. Of course, it didn't. My mom is elderly and I knew we had to find somewhere else to stay. As I deliberated about going to the shelter at NCC (I live in Uniondale), my friend Doug Wood, Chaplain of the EMFD, invited us to stay at his house, which had power. For 9 nights, from 11/2-11/10, we stayed at Doug's house, longer than either of us had anticipated. Doug was so kind and gracious, and I don't know what we would have done without him.
