Sound Off: East Meadow's Most-Run Stop Signs

Which ones are disregarded the most?

It's something that we've all seen before - reckless drivers blowing through stop signs.

We all know how dangerous Hempstead Turnpike is, but there are a few other streets in East Meadow which are considered dangerous. Part of the reason for this is because drivers don't always follow the rules of the road.

Do you know of a location in East Meadow where a stop sign is frequently rolled through or ignored? Tell us where it is in the comments.

Park Avenue and 7th in EM

Any and every stop sign on 7th Street! It's like a speedway especially during rush hour.

Oxford St and Freeman Ave - no one EVER stops. Just this week there was an accident. A 16 year old went through the stop sign and hit a parked car.

No one, not even the NCPD, stop at the stop signs at Chambers and Dillon Ave.

The corner of oxford Place and Hoover street, They cut down Oxford place from Bellmore rd to avoid the red light at N.Jerusalem rd., and also from N.Jerusalem rd to get to Bellmore rd . I have lost count of the near accidents involving cars and cars almost hitting kids.

I know the "number" streets south of Hempstead (5th, 6th, 7th, etc.) have a ton of stop signs - and that's actually why people run them. Stop signs are NOT meant for speed control. They are meant to assign right of way. And when you have many subsequent stop signs on a side street, even if drivers stop, they speed up in between to "make up the lost time." I don't know each intersection being talked about here, but I'll bet more than half of the signs should never have been installed in the first place. It's not a popular opinion, I bet, but it's the professional engineering one.

People drag race on North Jerusalem sometimes at night and driver's are reluctant to wait for anyone crossing in the crosswalk by CVS and Shakespeare Place on No. jerusalem.

Not a Stop sign.. but the Turning Lanes at Hempstead Tpke and Conti Square Boulevard.. People ignore the Red Light all the time and make U-turns and turn into Home Depot all the time..

At least you have a light there, from newbridge rd to bellmore rd there are no lights we commomly refer to this stretch of road as the boulivard of broken dreams due to the ampunt of accidents on it. At Bellmore rd and N.Jerusalem they put up a turning light on the east to wetsiden but not for the west to east . Accidents occur there on a regular basis due to the ffact that no one wants to slow down to miss the light especially at rush hour. We have seen cars flipped over cars crashing through the fence at Rosemary kennedy school and just recently a little girl got hit by a car and the person never stopped, i can't even remember the last time i saw a police car come down my block and lets not get into the whole making the police precient changes, we rarely saw the police come down our block before that happened.

Blowing through stop signs, speeding down side streets, running red lights and left turn arrows have become the norm on Long Island because police presence is practically nonexistant.

We desperately need a stop sign on the corner of East Meadow Avenue and Fairhaven Road. It is one of the most difficult corners to make a turn at - always heavy traffic!

Powers Ave. and Maitland St. Not only do they not stop but they actually speed up to try and make the light on Powers and East Meadow Ave.
