NUMC Offers Travel Medicine Service

Expert consultations and vaccinations will be available for travelers.

will offer a travel medicine service that will provide expert consultations and vaccinations for travelers.

The medicine service will provide a medical history assessment and a combined analysis that will determine a traveler's recommended and required vaccinations. It will also offer preventive measures based on the destination and the length of stay.

“We are pleased to offer this service to those residents traveling abroad," Steven J. Walerstein, executive vice president for medical affairs for the NuHealth System said. "The infectious disease experts in the Travel Medicine Service at NUMC utilize the most up-to-date travel disease databases to administer required and recommended vaccinations, provide an International Certificate of Vaccination and provide necessary prescriptions for preventive medications.”

The vaccinations available to meet international travel requirements or recommendations include: yellow fever, hepatitis, typhoid, polio, meningitis, rabies, varicella and Japanese encephalitis. Prescriptions for malaria prevention and treatment of traveler's diarrhea will also be available.
