Hundreds Gather in Eisenhower Park to Support Marathon Runners

Spectators cheered on runners as they crossed the finish line in East Meadow.

Spectators gathered in Eisenhower Park on Sunday to cheer on thousands of runners who crossed the finish line of the 2013 RXR Long Island Marathon.

The marathon started in Uniondale and ended in Eisenhower Park.

Kenneth Bobb, of Baldwin, came with his children to cheer on his wife and brother-in-law. He was registered to run the full marathon, but was injured four weeks ago. On Sunday, he was dressed in his running gear, including his bib number.

"Mentally I am still ready to go," he said. "I wanted to show my kids not to let fear stop them from reaching their goals. I still came out."

Warren Steinert, of Wading River, wore a sign on his jacket that said, "Long Island Runs For Boston." He said that he is an avid runner who wanted to come out and show support.

"It's a good time and a beautiful day," the 69-year-old said.

Greg Packer, of Huntington, said he came out to show love to his four friends who were running in the marathon and to the people of Boston.

"The spectators and the runners are all here for Boston," he said. "We are showing that nothing can stop us."
