Editor's Notebook: Saying Goodbye to East Meadow

Michael Ganci moves on to Bellmore and Merrick Patch.

I am informing you that Friday will be my final day as the local editor of East Meadow Patch.

As of Friday, I will become the local editor for both Bellmore Patch and Merrick Patch. As I think about what I have been through in my two years as the editor of East Meadow Patch, it truly boggles my mind. In fact, I don't even know where to begin.

Being that I'm truly a sports writer at heart, a lot of these new types of stories intimidated me at first, but I knew it was time for me to adjust and adapt, and it came much more naturally than I thought it would.

I have grown up as both a reporter and a manager in these two years, and the people of East Meadow have had a lot to do with that. Whether it's the , East Meadow Kiwanis or the , locals have embraced me since I took the helm in 2010.

In these past two years, I've been a part of a lot. A man came back to after they saved his life and revealed that he was a graduate. A in , and East Meadow Patch broke that story, thanks to . I have also gotten to speak to my fare share of celebrities as well. gave Patch a few minutes of his time, while the writers from "" revealed the East Meadow connection to the show.

We also had a story appear on the AOL.com homepage from East Meadow Patch, which helped raise awareness on and their work at .

I am going to miss the people of East Meadow, but I am leaving the site in the very capable hands of Danielle De Souza, who has run Bellmore Patch for the past year. She is an excellent reporter and person, and I am sure the transition will be effortless for her.

I urge you to stay in touch as I move forward with Bellmore and Merrick Patch. If you want to stay in touch with me via social media, you can like Bellmore Patch on Facebook here, and like Merrick Patch on Facebook here. Don't forget to follow me on Twitter as well!
