East Meadow Remembers 9/11

Patch looks back at Sept. 11 stories from East Meadow.

It has been 11 years since the nation was devastated by the Sept. 11 attacks.

Residents from East Meadow who were affected shared their feelings of loss, sadness, and hope with Patch.

In remembrance of the 11th anniversary, Patch has compiled a list of stories about how East Meadow has remembered those whose lives were touched by the tragedy in past years.


1.: Family and friends gathered to remember and celebrate the life of Robert Ehmer, a retired NYPD police officer and East Meadow resident, who was one of the the first responders of the Sept. 11 attacks.

2.: was one of more than 200 schools that participated in a Penny Drive to raise money for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. Students from Clarke raised $4,000.

3.: Residents gathered in to remember those who died and who fought for their country at a 2010 ceremony.

4.: In 2010, students from visited the Nassau County Supreme Court in Mineola and attended a 9/11 tribute.

5.: , who works in home care for went down to New York City to give her assistance on Sept. 11, 2001. She brought her camera and took photos of the unforgettable day in history.

6.: On the 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks the family of victims read the names of Nassau County residents who perished that day at the Lakeside Theatre in .

7.: The welcomed a piece of steel from one of the buildings at Ground Zero.
