East Meadow Library to Host EmCon

The event will take place at the library on Saturday and Sunday.

The East Meadow Public Library will host its 3rd Annual EmCon Convention, an Anime festival, on Saturday and Sunday.

Kelly Gordon, art director of the library and organizer of the convention, said that the event will bring people together.

"There is a real need and Anime is a passion," Gordon said. "It is definitely a culture that people celebrate."

This year's event will include a day of drawing, cosplay, martial arts, talks, workshops and contests. Special guests will include Jen Scrimenti, Joe Liotta, Zanny Lane and Japanese pop singer Hitomi Himekawa.

The EmCon Convention started at the library in 2011. It is the organization's first Anime festival that celebrates one of Japan's most popular culture and art. The festival has a number of cultural activities that will provide entertainment for people of all ages. More than 1,000 people attend the event each year.

"There is Comic Con in the City each year which is huge," Gordon said. "EmCon is filled with activities and free to the public."

The event will take place at the library during its regular hours.
