Communy Garden Plots Available in East Meadow

Suburban Agriculture - Cornell University Cooperative Extension - Community Gardens Available

of Nassau County will be opening up to Nassau residents community garden beds at 832 Merrick Avenue in East Meadow.

The cost for the season is $75.

Each garden bed is 5' by 20'. The application to apply for use of a garden bed will be available on line on April 23 at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Nassau website or at CCE of Nassau new location: 832 Merrick Avenue, East Meadow beginning April during plant diagnostics and soil pH testing operating hours, which will be on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m..

Application and payment are due on May 4. On May 7, a lottery will be held to assign the garden beds.

On the dryer side, make sure to water your trees deeply, preferable with a soaker hose. It is bone dry and a few hours or short storm is not enough.

Spring is the time trees are growing and must be watered during dry spells, especially newer trees.
