Engine 2 Bringing the Joy of Santa to East Meadow

Annual fire department holiday tradition continues Saturday.

Story and photos by John J. O'Brien Sr.

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season can be both crazy and exciting, as decorations adore our homes, shoppers search for the right gifts and children await the arrival of Santa.

For the officers and members of Engine Company #2 this time of year goes beyond remaining ever-ready for any emergency. They will also make time to put smiles on the faces of our residents young and old, as they make their way through East Meadow with Santa and his elves.

An Engine 2 tradition for years on end, once again Engine Company #2 will "Lead the Way" - only this time with the big man in the red suit.

No matter your age, come out and enjoy the smiles and laughter of East Meadow volunteers on a day they too will enjoy. Residents are urged to review the schedule and times listed below to experience the true holiday spirit of our community.

We urge our residents to arrive a few minutes early to any of the following locations to ensure Santa gets the arrival greeting of his own that he deserves:

  1. Jefferson St. & Prospect Ave. 1 p.m.
  2. 7th St. & Dewolf Place 1:20 p.m.
  3. Park Ave. & Court Pl. 1:40 p.m.
  4. Oakdale Rd. & Kenmore St. 2 p.m.
  5. Shakespeare pl. & Central Dr. S. 2:20 p.m.
  6. Cynthia Dr. & Chaladay La. 2:40 p.m.
  7. Midland Dr. & North Dr. 3 p.m.
  8. Chamberlin St. & Powers Ave. 3:20 p.m.
  9. Starke Ave. & Dale Ave. 3:40 p.m.
  10. Oxford St. & Byrd Dr. 4 p.m.

Along with Engine Company #2, several other of East Meadow's companies have holiday plans forthcoming whether its work for families in need or a visit to the pediatric ward at Nassau University Medical Center.

On behalf of Chief of Department Walter P. Griffin, his Assistant Chiefs Robert Salvesen, Jr, James Kane and John McGee, we hope all our residents enjoy this holiday season.
