NUMC Hosts Annual World AIDS Day

This year at the third annual World AIDS Day Program at Nassau University Medical Center, the theme was "Celebration and Commemoration."

Due to current and impending AIDS research and currently available medications, the global goal of "Getting to Zero" is hopeful.

A moving ceremony commemorating HIV+ patients who passed away from HIV in 2013 was followed by an educational mini-conference, which offered to the public an HIV update by Dr. Janice Verley, the program's director, and workshops on the various co-morbidities faced by patients such as "Hepatitis C and New Treatment Options" given by Dr. Tabassum Yasmin, director of the HIV/Hepatitis C Co-Infection Clinic at NUMC, and "HIV and Cancer," conducted by Dr. Hamid Pahlavan, HIV Program Treatment Adherence coordinator also at NUMC.
