Locals packed into Veterans Memorial Park Wednesday to remember those lost and affected by the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
Glenn Carpentier of the East Meadow Fire Department led the ceremony, which included the singing of “God Bless America,” a bagpipe performance of “Amazing Grace” and a candle lighting.
“It is worth remembering what has not changed,” Carpentier said. “Our character, as a nation, has not changed. Our faith in God, and in each other, has not changed...Our belief that all men are created equal, and are free to determine their own destinies, has only been strengthened.”
Department Chaplain Douglas Wood led the community in a prayer as well.
