The fire department hosted a memorial in Veterans Memorial Park.

The held its 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony in on Tuesday.

More than 200 people came out to show their respects to those who perished in the Sept. 11 attacks.

"Let us remember those who died on that terrible day and those that continue to suffer," Legislator Norma Gonsalves said.

"These ceremonies are and always will be a tribute to both the living and the dead," Glenn Carpentier, chairman of the 9/11 Committee said. "We remember how ordinary human beings who were living ordinary lives choose duty in the face of death."

At the end of the ceremony, attendees held candles while they sang and prayed.

"Out of darkness came a national resolve to make this world a better place," Carpentier told the crowd.

John Priest, chief of the East Meadow Fire Department, said that he was pleased with the East Meadow community's support and sense of unity.

"It was a wonderful event," he said.
