East Meadow Artist Exhibiting Work at Library

Katherine Trunk's pieces will be on display throughout January.

The work of East Meadow resident and professional artist Katherine Trunk is on display through January at the East Meadow Public Library.

Trunk is the winner of the library's 2013 juried art show. Her work has been accepted into juried art shows throughout the United States, often winning awards. A "Meet the Artist" reception was held in her honor Jan. 5.

"Right now I am creating many fine art pieces and exhibiting them," Trunk told Patch. "I've also exhibited extensively with my hand painted animal ornaments throughout L.I. libraries."

An accomplished illustrator as well, Trunk has created illustrations for The New York Times, The New York Sun, National Review and more.

Artistic ability apparently runs in the family as Trunk said her late granduncle, Herman Trunk Jr., was a pioneer in American modern art. He was featured in the Smithsonian Archives of American Art.

Trunk's work will also be featured Feb. 26 at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola. "I will be participating in the Women of the World, Long Island Group Art and Photography Exhibit," she said, adding that a gala awards and recognition event will be taking place there.

Following that, Trunk's pieces will be on display in CW Post's Hutchins Gallery beginning March 4.

The East Meadow Public Library is located at 1886 Front Street. Call 794-2570 for more information.
