Danielle Jean of East Meadow has been selected a state finalist for the 2014 Miss New York USA pageant.

All contestants are required to raise $1,500 in sponsorship fees; three installments of $500 are due on the 16th of every month now until January.

Jean created a fundraising page Nov. 29 to help raise the money. To date, $112 has been raised by seven people in 19 days.

The goal is $3,000.

"The reason why I want to be the next Miss New York is because I want to prove to myself and others that I am more than capable of doing anything I put my mind into as long as I put the work in!" Jean said. "I have the opportunity to represent my community and this beautiful state!"

The pageant will be held Jan. 17-19 at the The Performing Arts Center at Purchase College in Harrison, NY.

@Simon Frank is right her desire to pursue this title because she wants to prove she can do anything she puts her mind to as long as she does the work, then she should get a job and stop asking for the money.... and it was necessary for you to add the virgin comment?
