Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano will extend Eisenhower Park operating hours from dusk until 10 p.m. Monday evening for residents seeking to honor victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America.

Nassau County will donate candles for residents seeking to attend the vigil. Although there is no formal program, this evening provides an opportunity for veterans, families and friends to mourn their loved ones.

“This is a small act we undertake to honor the innocent victims of the September 11th attacks on our nation,” said County Executive Ed Mangano.  “It is important to have a respectful location where we can grieve and where people can come to honor the lives of loved ones they lost on September 11, 2001.”

Nassau County’s 9/11 Memorial adjacent to the lake at Eisenhower Park features two semi-transparent aluminum towers, representing the World Trade Center towers, rising 30 feet from a fountain, and also contains two pieces of steel recovered from the World Trade Center.
